In this piece, One of These Days, Christie confronts the weight of patriarchal systems head-on, embedding personal and universal symbolism beneath a vivid, brightly colored surface. While her aesthetic nods to Pop art, the resemblance is superficial at best. Rather than relying on mass-produced imagery or sanitized cultural icons, Christie draws from her own lived experience, raw moments, private jokes, and quiet acts of defiance often invisible to those who’ve never had to bite their tongue.
The work balances beauty and resistance; beneath the saturated palette lies a simmering tension, a push and pull between allure and anger, intimacy and alienation. Some references are intentionally obscured, a protective veil for truths that are often dismissed or ignored, especially by those most accustomed to being heard.
Christie’s hope is that people won’t simply look at the work, but feel it—the weight of repetition, the exhaustion of performing softness, and the sharp edge of withheld fury.
🎀 Last night was incredible. I cannot express how proud i am of my classmates. I have never enjoyed college, and especially this class, but we made each other smile, we encouraged each other, we laughed a lot, and we put on a beautiful, dynamic exhibition, despite all of our obstacles. This is community. I am thrilled to work alongside you as fellow art educators. Always here for you 🖤
Thank you to my friends, family, teachers, and fellow artists who came to show your support & to everyone who has supported me in other ways. It's been quite the journey, but I will be starting my last semester in a few weeks. I'm exhausted but so excited for the future. 💫
