The phrase "it takes a village to raise a child", has always held special meaning to me. In the past, villages would work together to survive. Everyone played a part in the day to day, and each individual worked together for the better of the group. Over time, these units have gotten smaller, and more isolated. However, what if the focus shifts from children, and just surviving to something more? To help others even if we don't have to? To make our city more beautiful. Providing a safe space for folks without families, or families that don't accept them, to come together, and feel safe to express themselves.
I found my community in Albany. I was born and raised here, and as a young adult I was desperate to leave because I believed the lie that Albany sucked. Although I might not stay forever, it will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up here. I discovered and accepted who I really am, and found people that love me, and love the community that we build. I finally found my village.*I am so honored to have my work in Quackenbush square for other people to enjoy and take pictures with their friends, family, and dogs (please tag me/ send me photos of your dogs in front of the "Woof!" sign). Thank you so much to Park Albany and Albany Barn for making this opportunity possible. Both organizations are such huge advocates for artists, and we are so lucky to have so many wonderful folks that care.
